The Spencer softball team's skid continued Monday night with a 5-1 loss at Emmetsburg in the Tigers' second-to-last regular season game of the year. Spencer collected two hits in their eighth-straight loss dating back to June 23.

Emmetsburg's Hannah VanOosbree launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win for the E-Hawk's. The homer put Emmetsburg up 5-0 and on their way to a share of the Lakes Conference title. If Emmetsburg beat Storm Lake in a game played following Spencer's Monday night, they will tie with Estherville Lincoln Central and Le Mars for a three-way tie atop the Lakes Conference.

Spencer falls to 6-7 in the Lakes (11-16 overall) and plays Storm Lake tonight (Tuesday) in the regular season finale. They face Storm Lake again in the first round of 4A Regional play on Thursday in Storm Lake.

Spencer's two hits came from Taylor Anderson and Maddie Gould, who both singled in the seventh inning off Faith Schmidt. Gould drove in Anderson's courtesy runner, Carissa Kerns, for the Tigers' only run.

Emmetsburg got up 2-0 after a couple of Spencer errors and a walk in the first inning. Anderson took the loss in six innings of work, giving up five runs (three earned) on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Schmidt earned the win for the E-Hawks and struck out six.

On Saturday, June 30, Spencer lost a make-up game at MOC-Floyd Valley, 13-6. MOC scored 12 runs in the third inning, which carried them to victory despite giving up four Tiger runs in the fourth.
