Softball: Rebels top Alta-Aurelia, 11-1

Sioux Central's softball team got 10 hits and drew five walks in an 11-1 rout over Alta-Aurelia Monday night in Peterson. The Rebels got out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and piled on six runs in the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Senior shortstop Chandler Johannsen led the Rebels with a 3-for-4 night, including two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Johannsen is the team's leading hitter with a .465 average. Leadoff hitter Presley Herrig reached bases all four times to the plate, going 1-for-1 with three walks. Herrig stole three bases and scored two runs.

Hallie Ehlers and Lanae Shiley each went 2-for-3 in the winning effort, which improves Sioux Central to 7-16 on the season. Gloria Jensen earned her fourth win of the season after giving up one earned run on five hits in five innings.

The Rebels played at St. Marys, Storm Lake Wednesday and at Harris-Lake Park on Thursday to finish its regular season. They open 2A postseason play against Okoboji on Tuesday, July 3, in Milford at 7 p.m.
