Fourth of July will feature Chad Elliott, big band and you
Chad Elliott will provide entertainment in the Clay County Fair grandstand on the Fourth of July, and the evening will culminate with a 20-minute fireworks spectacular by J & M DIsplays.
The Spencer Municipal Band will perform and provide the music for the annual parade of flags, but the members of the Fourth of July Committee are hopeful that residents from the Spencer area will help with the evening's entertainment by stepping up to the microphone during an open mic segment of the evening.
From 7-8 p.m., local talent will have the chance to sign up and perform on the grandstand stage for the audience. Those who wish to perform can begin registering at 6:30 p.m. A CD player will be provided for any musical accompaniment.
Festivities will get underway at the fairgrounds when the Hy-Vee Grill begins preparing burgers, chicken filet sandwiches and hot dogs as part of a meal deal for a nominal fee from 5-7 p.m.
Free watermelon, provided by Fareway, will be served by members of the Clay County 4-H Leadership Council from 7-8 p.m.
At 8 p.m. the Spencer Municipal Band will take the stage with a 45-minute show of traditional patriotic favorites. The flag parade - including the local Color Guard and service flag introduction - will begin at approximately 8:45 p.m. accompanied by the municipal band's music.
Elliott, who spent several years in Spencer as a multi-talented artist, will be performing from 9-10 p.m. on the stage, followed by the fireworks presentation.
The concession stand in the grandstand will be serving water and popcorn from 7:30-10 p.m.
The evening is free. Donation buckets will be available for those wishing to contribute.
