College becomes nation's Renewable Energy Leadership Center

Thursday, June 21, 2012

The Board of Iowa Lakes Community College recently formalized an agreement with the National Coalition of Certification Centers - NC3 - making the northwest Iowa system of colleges the nation's only Renewable Energy Leadership Center.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Iowa Lakes to continue to be a leader in renewable energy education and provide industry-recognized certifications for new and existing technicians," Jolene Rogers, executive director of Institutional Advancement at Iowa Lakes, said.

Iowa Lakes and NC3 have partnered to, among other initiatives, begin implementing and developing new NC3 skills certifications, particularly in the area of Wind Energy and Turbine Technology.

"We look forward to this partnership to continue to advance our leadership position in wind energy and other fields. This partnership with NC3 will positively impact the entire wind industry as we focus on developing the most highly skilled workers possible," Rogers said.

Dan Ramirez, NC3's director of Marketing and Development, said, "We couldn't be more thrilled to have Iowa Lakes Community College as a new member of our team of national educational leaders. The energy and vision that Iowa Lakes embodies will add substantially to the organization's constellation of education and industry workforce leaders and truly make a difference in the growing field of wind energy."

As the Energy Leadership Center, Iowa Lakes will be helping develop specific certifications in areas such as safety, tool management and diagnostics/trouble-shooting. A customer service certification program is also being developed. The college will utilize the facility, adjacent to the existing wind energy and turbine technology classroom site, once it is renovated.
