Baseball: Sioux Central comes back for 14-7 win
Sioux Central needed a mid-game rally to gain control of the game Wednesday night versus Prairie Valley in Peterson, which the Rebels won handily, 14-7.
Prairie Valley (1-13) jumped on Sioux Central starter Colin Swanson early and knocked him out of the game in the second inning. Brad Ripke came on in relief and would hold Prairie Valley scoreless over the last four innings to earn the win.
Trailing 7-5, the Rebels took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when they sent 10 players to the plate and scored seven runs. Four Rebels produced RBI-singles in the inning, including Nick Sievers' two-run base hit.
Sioux Central would add another run in the fifth and sixth for the 14-7 win. The Rebels improve to 10-5 on the season.
GTRA HANDS REBELS 5-1 LOSS
The GTRA Titans beat Sioux Central in Ruthven Tuesday night, 5-1. The Rebels were held to just three hits and drew one walk as they only plated one run, which came in the top of the first. GTRA (9-4) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, and blew the game open with four in the bottom of the sixth. Blaze Alesch struck out 11 in the complete-game win for GTRA.
Nick Wittmaack picked up the loss in a complete-game effort where all five runs giving up were unearned. He struck out nine and walked four. Wittmaack also scored Sioux Central's only run and went 1-for-3.
BLOWOUT IN POCAHONTAS, 20-0
The Rebels got 12 hits and drew 12 walks in a 20-0 trouncing of Pocahontas Area (2-10) Monday night in a four-inning game. Bobby Rushton earned the win, giving up just one hit and struck out six over four innings.
