Services for Neva O. Rubel were held Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Rev. Roger Maize officiated the service.

Interment took place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Neva Ora Rubel, daughter of Walter and Minnie (Squires) Mileham, was born December 13, 1925, on a farm near Webb, Iowa. She attended school near Webb, graduating from Garfield High School.

On Jan. 22, 1944, Neva was united in marriage to Kenneth Louis Rubel, Sr. in Jackson, Minn. To this union three children were born.

Neva was employed as a telephone operator for Ruthven Telephone Company before going to work at Berkeley's in Emmetsburg, where she served as a supervisor. Neva also sold Shaklee products and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Neva looked forward to spring and summer each year. For her that meant planting her gardens, raising chickens, taking care of the new litters of kittens and cooking meals for the men working in the fields. She loved knitting and crocheting blankets and afghans. One of her greatest pleasures was baking. She enjoyed entertaining; especially family gatherings and she opened her home to many friends visiting from Texas and Arizona, where she and Ken spent several winters. To her, fall was a time for canning and freezing all the produce from her gardens. One year she planted 400 tomato plants alone. The winter months found her reconnecting with her friends in the south.

Neva was a member of the United Methodist Church and was very active in her church circle. She was also a member of the Eastern Star for many years.

Neva passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa., at the age of 86.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy Hanson; a granddaughter, Lori Hanson; brothers, Merle, Floyd, Homer, Ray, Hershel, and Lyle Mileham; sisters, Jewel Johnson and Dorthea Edelman.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, Sr. of Ruthven, Iowa; a daughter, Judy Shores Judd and her husband, Bob of Clinton, Iowa and Kenneth L. Rubel, Jr. and his wife, Jane of Ruthven, Iowa; son-in-law, Ron Hanson of Ruthven, Iowa; six grandchildren, Tim Hanson of Des Moines, Iowa, Natalie Rubel of Ruthven, Iowa, Jennifer Rubel of North Liberty, Iowa, Dan Galant of Clinton, Iowa, Julie Curtis of Camanche, Iowa, and Bill Shores of Cocoa, Florida; six great grandchildren; a sister, Marge Neibauer of Mason City, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Helen Mileham of Storm Lake, Iowa, Norma Rubel of Laurens, Iowa and Tess Rubel of San Francisco, California; as well as many other relatives and friends.
