North Y accidents claims life

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

A collision between a large truck and a Buick Park Avenue Monday evening just before 5:30 p.m., at the North Y intersection in Spencer, claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman and sent another person to the Spencer Hospital. Responders from Spencer and Fostoria conducted rescue and recovery work as traffic was re-routed at the busy intersection. The two vehicles involved wound up in the east ditch at the intersection where Highway 18 and Highway 71 come together in north Spencer. The driver of the Buick died in the collision. One occupant of the truck was treated at the scene, and a second was transported to the hospital by Spencer Ambulance where he was treated and released a few hours later. The accident, according to initial investigation findings by the Clay County Sheriff's office, was a T-bone style accident, damaging the front end of the truck and the front driver's side of the Park Avenue. Unofficial findings suggest the truck had the right-of-way. Additional details were withheld pending notification of the victim's family.
