The Tiger softball team improved to 4-2 in the Lakes Conference with a 5-0 shutout of Western Christian in Hull Monday evening. Spencer got a complete game, two-hit performance from Carly Richardson, who pitched all seven innings.
"We played great defense tonight," Spencer coach Greg Jones said. "We played a very clean game, didn't commit any errors. The defense helped out Carly when she got into a couple of spots, and she came up with some big strikeouts when she needed to."
Catcher Paige Wigen threw out an attempted base stealer in the bottom of the first to curtail Western's running threat, and the infield turned a double play in the second. In the bottom of the third, it was Richardson who would come up with two strikeouts with the bases loaded to get out a jam.
Kari Kramer and Karis Rhode each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers. Rhode doubled, scored two runs and drove in two. Kramer drove in one run and stole two bases.
Madi Rose scored two runs and stole two bases, while Paige McCord hit an RBI-double.
Spencer (8-7) will travel to Cherokee on Wednesday and play at North Union in Swea City on Thursday night.
