Norman L. Robeson, 91, of Cherokee, Ia., passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, in the Countryside Estates in Cherokee.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Ia. Rev. Carolyn Hollar will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset View Cemetery at Washta, Ia. There will be military rites at the graveside by L.A. Wescott Post No. 2253 of the V.F.W. There was a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com

Norman was born on Feb. 10, 1921, at Holbrook, Neb. to Frank and Elsie (Warner) Robeson. He attended grade school in Nebraska until the eighth grade and then helped his parents work on the farm. The family moved to Iowa to farm, after experiencing a seven year drought in Nebraska.

Norman entered the Army Air Force, serving during WW II. Traveling by ship, starting on the United States East Coast, he went to India where planes were loaded with supplies to fly over "The Hump" into China. After serving there, the ship continued on to the United States West Coast. After returning home, Norman married Wanda Beazley on June 15, 1946, at Sioux City, Ia. The couple had one daughter Joyce in 1949. He worked at the Ford garage in Storm Lake. Later they moved to Washta to begin the farming career and then to Cherokee where they stayed until Norman went into the nursing home at the end of 2008.

Norman enjoyed music, playing the guitar and pitching horseshoes on a team in his younger days. He liked to weld, go to dances, and playing cards in a card club. He lived a simple lifestyle and loved farming. He was a patient and loving husband, father and friend. He was a member of the Quimby United Methodist Church and L.A. Wescott Post No. 2253 of the V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Myrtle Hicks Robeson; his wife, Wanda on Jan. 4, 2012; sisters: Helen Foss and Wanda Marie Robeson; brother, Ivan Robeson; sister-in-law, Peg Robeson; and brothers-in-law: George Simon and Judd Foss.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Kuhrts of Alta, Ia.; sister, Shirley Simon of Sioux Rapids, Ia.; a brother, Frank "Junior" Robeson and his wife, Carla of Newton, Ia.; sisters-in-law: Lela Warner and her husband, Delmar of Storm Lake, Ia., and Eula Mae Best and her husband, Ralph of Oxford, Neb.; several nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.
