The Tiger softball team kept putting up runs, and pitcher Carly Richardson clamped down late, as Spencer beat Spirit Lake, 13-5, Monday night in Spencer.

The Tigers scored in five of its six innings and outscored Spirit Lake 7-0 in the last three innings to improve to 3-0 in Lakes Conference play this season.

Spirit Lake took a 3-2 lead after the top of the third but the Tiger bats would put up four runs in the bottom half to retake the lead, featuring a two-run single by Paige McCord and an RBI-double by Hailey Huckfelt. McCord, a senior right fielder, went 3-for-5 with five RBIs on the night.

The Tigers would score 11 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, and starting pitcher Carly Richardson would shut out the Indians over the final three frames to earn the complete-game win.

Alexa Allen collected three hits and stole two bases, Madi Rost and Huckfelt each recorded two hits including a double, and Richardson tripled in two runs.

The Tigers will travel to face Lakes Conference foe, Estherville Lincoln Central, on Wednesday, who's currently ranked ninth in 3A.

"We've got our hands full this week, but the girls believe they can play with anybody, and they can," Spencer coach Greg Jones said.

Spencer defeated Graettinger-Terril, 12-0, in four innings at Saturday's ELC tournament in Estherville. Taylor Anderson picked up the win. In its second game, Spencer fell to North Union, ranked No. 1 in 2A, 11-2.
