Funeral services for Mrs. LaVonne "Bonnie" Biekert, 78, of Spencer, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Rev. Dale Hodges will officiate the service.

Visitation will take place starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mrs. Biekert passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

LaVonne "Bonnie" Lee Biekert, the daughter of Lloyd and Edith (Thompson) Gates, was born March 29, 1934, in Worthington, Minn. Her childhood years were spent in Worthington, where she received her education, graduating from Worthington High School in 1952.

LaVonne married Eldon James Biekert on Sept. 1, 1956, in Worthington, Minn. Following their marriage, they moved to Everly, where they lived from 1956 to 1968. In 1968, they moved to Spencer, where she was employed as a bookkeeper by Montgomery Ward Department Store for several years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Spencer. Lavonne enjoyed singing and did a lot of entertaining, and also was involved in a quartet with her sisters that traveled all over the United States. She had her own TV show and also sang with the Barbershop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother in infancy; a brother-in-law, Harold Glackin; and a sister, Joyce Loud.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Janelle Johnson and her husband, Barry of Terril, Ia.; her son, Brent Biekert, and his wife, Rhonda, of Spencer, Ia.; three grandchildren: Mark, Brian and Jacob; two sisters: Joan Glackin of Schleswig, Ia. and Arlene Welch of Denison, Ia.; other relatives and many friends.

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
