Clay County deputies located Versluis at 12:55 a.m. Friday, in the backyard and made contact, after he was seen acting suspiciously. He was unable to articulate a valid reason to be walking about the property which was not his own. Deputies discovered a zip-lock baggie containing methamphetamine lying in the backyard, where Versluis had allegedly been previously.
He was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
Spencer Police Department's K-9 unit assisted, conducting a sniff search of Versluis' vehicle, which was parked at 811 Second Ave. SE. Following a positive alert by the K-9, deputies conducted a further search of the vehicle and seized items of drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.
Versluis is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $6500 bond.
