Kenneth Versluis was charged for at least the third time for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, after the 59-year-old was located in a backyard at 829 Second Ave. SE. in Spencer.

Clay County deputies located Versluis at 12:55 a.m. Friday, in the backyard and made contact, after he was seen acting suspiciously. He was unable to articulate a valid reason to be walking about the property which was not his own. Deputies discovered a zip-lock baggie containing methamphetamine lying in the backyard, where Versluis had allegedly been previously.

He was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

Spencer Police Department's K-9 unit assisted, conducting a sniff search of Versluis' vehicle, which was parked at 811 Second Ave. SE. Following a positive alert by the K-9, deputies conducted a further search of the vehicle and seized items of drug paraphernalia and a quantity of cash.

Versluis is being held in the Clay County Jail on a $6500 bond.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force, and the Spencer Police Department. Anyone with information regarding Kenneth Versluis' drug activities is encouraged to contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office, or Text-A-Tip. Cash rewards are available for qualifying information.

Why don't they put this guy away for good. He has been in nothing but trouble for several years. Obviously he isn't going to clean up his act.
