Area recognized by ESGR

The Iowa Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) named Area 3 as Area of the Year for outstanding performance by the volunteers in the area on behalf of the ESGR mission.

"The Area of the Year award is presented on behalf of the Iowa Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve on behalf of the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve Forces. The award recognizes all the volunteers of Area 3 for their outstanding service and continuing support of the National Defense. Throughout 2011, Area 3 volunteers contributed 750 volunteer hours. The volunteers participated in several Patriotic Employer award presentations, lunch and learns, statement of support signings and the legislative breakfast at the capitol. The military outreach volunteers are engaged in unit activities and homecoming events.

Area 3 Chairman Tom Manley accepted the award on behalf of all ESGR volunteers in Area 3 during the Iowa ESGR annual meeting this month. Area 3 includes Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Clay, Palo Alto, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Calhoun and Webster counties, and 17 volunteers.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. Its mission is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts. The Iowa Committee of ESGR involves 160 volunteers across the state.
