No funeral services are scheduled for Mr. Mark Smith, 50, of Spencer, at this time.

A public gathering will take place, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 19, with family present at the Warner Funeral Chapel in Spencer, from family present from 5-8 p.m.

Private family burial will occur at a later date.

Mr. Smith passed away Saturday, April 15, 2012, at Spencer Hospital.

Mark Lewis Smith, the son of Veral and Judy Rish Smith was born July 16, 1961, in Remus, Mich. His childhood years were spent in the Remus area where he graduated high school.

Mark married Heidi Hallenbeck on Dec. 19, 1987, at Chapel of Roses in Las Vegas, Nev. They later divorced. He worked as a general manager for G&G Ag. Mark enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed working with machinery, playing with RC Helicopters, spending time with his dog Cindi, and traveling, especially to Lake Fork in Texas. He was an avid reader and took pleasure in watching the live feed of the Decorah Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters,: Danielle Smith of Fostoria, and Olivia Smith of Emmetsburg; one grandson, Byron Zielstra of Fostoria; his parents, Veral and Judy Smith of Idaho; a mother-in-law, Manuela Perez; one sister, Rebecca Smith of Phoenix, Ariz.; companion, Brenda "Boyer" Tiesworth of Spencer; other relatives and many special friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up in Mark's name.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
