Jeanne K. Bendlin, 84, of Fremont, Neb., formerly of North Bend, Neb., died Tuesday April 10, 2012, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
She was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Norfolk, Va. to Harold and Naomi (Wright) Giep. She grew up at Buzzards Bay, Mass. and moved to Spencer at the age of 16. She graduated from Spencer High School in Spencer. She obtained her bachelors degree from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and her Masters degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. She married Virgil Bendlin in Jackson, Minn. on Oct. 11, 1946. The couple farmed near Sutherland for 20 years and then moved to Spencer, where they lived for 15 years. She taught school at Spencer, Hartley and Primghar until her retirement in 1989. She then lived at Weslaco, Texas for 11 years until moving to North Bend, Neb. She had been residing at Arbor Manor in Fremont since 2009. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in North Bend; a former long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church at Sutherland and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary at Sutherland.
Survivors include a son, Greg and wife, Rena Bendlin of Omaha; daughters: Naomi Sue and husband, Jim Dodge of North Bend, and Sally JoJean and husband, Russ Bailey of Tulsa, Okla.; brother, John and wife, Barbara Giep of Flag Pond, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Virgil, who died Nov. 23, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m Friday, April 13, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church at North Bend, Neb. The Rev. Calvin L'Heureux will officiate. There is no visitation. Memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
