Mass of Christian Burial for Maurice R. Conlon was conducted Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Rev. Clem Currans and Rev. Tom Geelan officiated the service.

Interment took place at Calvary Cemetery in Ruthven.

Maurice Robert Conlon, son of Chris and Bertha (Peterson) Conlon, was born Feb. 5, 1916, in Great Oak Township, Ia. He attended country school in Great Oak Township.

On April 3, 1942, Maurice was inducted into the United States Army where he proudly served in the European Theatre in the 36th Cavalry. After being honorably discharged Maurice returned to Palo Alto County. On Feb. 8, 1946, Maurice and his brother, Joe started their business, The Conlon Brothers. In 1947, another brother, Jim joined them.

Maurice was united in marriage to Evelyn Amundson on Nov. 20, 1946, at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union a daughter and son were born.

Maurice continued working with the Conlon Brothers until the business was sold in 1969. Maurice also drove school bus for the Ruthven Consolidated School for many years.

Maurice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. He was also a very active member of the American Legion Post No. 33 of Ruthven.

Maurice passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the Emmetsburg Care Center, at the age of 95.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; his daughter, Carol Moore; brothers: William, Raymond, Frank, Charles, Marion "Bob", Edward, James, Harry and Joseph; sisters: Marie Baxter and Irene Christiansen; and a grandson, Jon Moore.

He is survived by his son, Steven Conlon of Stafford, Va.; a granddaughter, Melissa Nehrbass of Reno, Nev.; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Molloy of Humboldt, Ia.; and several nieces and nephews.
