Burial will take place at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew.
Mr. Van Kleek passed away Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Vernon Bruce Van Kleek, the son of Arthur and Rose Ross Van Kleek, was born May 25, 1928, in Webb, Ia. He received his early education in Webb.
Vernon married Mazy Williams on Aug. 20, 1971, in Spencer, Ia. Following their marriage they resided in Spencer. Vernon worked with heavy equipment and later he worked for the City of Spencer until his retirement. Vernon was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. In his younger years, Vernon enjoyed working with wood and steel. Vernon found great joy in visiting with friends and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Victor Whipple, Ivan Whipple, Bob Van Kleek and Dale Van Kleek; sister, Inez Durwood; and step daughter, Bonnie Merritt.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Mazy of Spencer; three daughters: Sheila Kassmeier of Spencer, Sarah King of Shenandoah, Ia. and Peggy (Mike) Marx of Rochester, Minn.; one grandson, Victor Ingrim, and great-grandson, Joshua Ingrim; step-daughter, Dixie (Dean) McPhie of St. George, Utah; brother, Duane (Phyllis) Van Kleek of Milford, Ia.; other relatives and many friends.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
