Services for Harley W. Ruehle were held Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven. Rev. Roger Maize officiated the service.

Inurnment occurred at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Harley Walter Ruehle was born May 27, 1931, in Silver Lake Township, Palo Alto County to Walter and Edna (Johnson) Ruehle. He attended Silver Lake Consolidated School in Ayrshire. He then attended Highland No. 7 country school and graduated from Ruthven High School in 1948.

Harley was drafted in 1952 and spent two years in the U.S. Army serving in Korea attaining the rank of Corporal.

After returning home, he began farming. He also was a long distance truck driver. Harley was a member of the American Legion Post No. 33 in Ruthven.

Harley died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Ia., at the age of 80.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew; and his companion, Avis.

Survivors include two sisters and their husbands: Shirley and Barney Granstra of Spencer, and Joyce and Howard Dixson of Ithaca, N.Y.; three nieces; two nephews; special friends, Larry and Kathleen Coleman; as well as other relatives and friends.
