Steve Dean Smith
Steve Dean Smith, 52, of Bull Shoals, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, of his courageous seven-month battle with cancer, at his home. He was born April 12, 1959, in Chillocothe, Mo., to Dean Layton and Marguerite Rhea (Sidden) Smith. He was Director of Marketing for Ranger Boats, coming to the area in 2004 from Spirit Lake, Ia. Steve dedicated his career life to the boating and fishing industry, working for Pure Fishing, Yahama Outboard Motors, and Ranger Boat Manufacturing. He was a lifetime member of the NRA; a graduate of Columbia College with a BS in Business Administration; a Certified Purchasing manager from 1988-98; Vice President of Programs -- APICS (Mid-Missouri Chapter); a member of Purchasing Management Association of St. Louis; and past president of Purchasing Association of Central Missouri. He also owned Tombstone Tackle of Columbia, Mo., and was active in tournament bass fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Cathryn of the home; daughter, Marlo Colston of Madison, Mo.; his mother, Marguerite Smith of Jefferson City, Mo.; brother, Scott Smith of Jefferson City, Mo.; sister, Kristi Stricker, of Vancouver, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Bell and Curt McLaughlin officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time, Saturday. A graveside service will be Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, Ia.
Pallbearers will be Bart Schad, Paul Meleen, Josh Stricker, Joe Colston, John Stricker and Bill Leanard. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Dewey and Barry Day.
