Festival of Choirs to offer 'lessons and carols'

"A Festival of Lessons and Carols" will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Ten Spencer church choirs will present the Christmas story through scripture and song.

The Festival of Choirs will present "A Festival of Lessons and Carols" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spencer.

Rev. Russell Muilenburg of Hope Reformed Church, who will serve as narrator, and 10 Spencer church choirs will join together to present the Christmas story through scripture and song.

The performance will commence with an organ prelude by Elina Ozolins. This will be followed by the choir processional, featuring trumpeters Kurt and Lauren Schwarck. The congregation will join the choirs in singing, "O, Come All Ye Faithful."

Rev. William Schreiber of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will offer an invocation. Karen Hunziker will serve as song leader.

Rev. Kevin Grimes of DaySpring Assembly of God Church will deliver the offertory prayer. During the offertory, the high school Tuba Christmas Quartet will be featured.

Following the final lesson, the participating choirs will sing "The Hallelujah Chorus" directed by Mike Palm.

Rev. Dan Mayes of First Christian Church will offer the benediction which will lead into the choirs and congregation joining to sing "Joy to the World" during the afternoon processional.

Everyone is invited to attend this ecumenical Christmas program.
