Funeral services for Mrs. Marian Carey, 87, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Sacred Heart Church in Spencer. Rev. William Schreiber will officiate the service.

There will be a Catholic Daughters' rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Warner Chapel. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, with the family greeting friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mrs. Carey passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Marian Frances Carey, the daughter of Harry and Rebecca (Henderson) Crane, was born Oct. 2, 1924, in Dickens. Her childhood years were spent in Dickens, where she received her education. Following her graduation from Dickens High School in 1942, she moved to Spencer, where she worked at a variety of jobs throughout the community.

Marian married James Carey on June 13, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer. Marian devoted herself for many years as mother and homemaker while her kids were in school. Eventually, she took a job as a cook for the Spencer schools, where she enjoyed many lasting friendships. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters. She was also active with the Scouts and COD Dance Club in her early years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim, on Sept. 10, 2008; one brother, Bill Crane; and one sister, Lucille Hamrick.

Left to cherish her memory are one son, Mark and wife, Karen Carey of Spencer; one daughter, Lisa Carey of Spencer; four grandchildren: Joe and wife, Katy of Spencer, Paul of Denver, Colo., Adam of Spencer, and Andrew of Cedar Falls; three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Jack and Janey Carey; two brothers: Carl Crane and wife, Marian of Spencer, and Tom Crane and wife, Lois of Milford; other relatives and many friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
