Arlene Fay Nichols, 73, of Seaford, Del., on Oct. 17, 2011 at John Hopkins Hospital, went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous and faith filled fight battling several illnesses.
She was born in Lakefield, Minn., a daughter of Matthew Schnider and Daisey Nelson. She grew up in Everly, Ia., and moved to Delaware in 1967.
She retired from Yale Sporting Goods in Federalsburg. She enjoyed sewing, baking her special carrot cake and watching Hummingbirds.
Her family was her pride and joy.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Geo. Wilbur Nichols; sons: Merlin (Brenda) VandeMark, of Bethel, Matthew (Kristi) Nichols, of Seaford, and Donald Brooks (Lynette) Nichols, of Laurel; daughters: Rhonda (Bob) Halttunen, of Bridgeville, Brenda Lee (Delbert) Wilson, of Georgetown, Tina VandeMark of Phoenix, Ariz., Debra Lynn (Joe) Cahall, of Delmar, and Melody Ann (David) Minton, of Greenwood; son-in-law, Jay Cottet, of Seaford; her brothers: Alvin (Joyce) Schnider, of Iowa, and Steve (Debbie) Schneider, of Nebraska; and her sisters: Mavis Applegate, of Neb., Norma (Marvin) Jans of Iowa, Marlene (Ronald) Freeburg of Arizona, Joann (Byron) Thelan of Iowa, and Carol (Roger) Steely of Iowa; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Nichols Cottet.
A memorial service was held at the Laurel Wesleyan Church on Oct. 29, 2011.
