Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Clarken, 79, of Spencer, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, with family present from 5-7 p.m. at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
Mrs. Clarken passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at her home in Spencer from an aneurism.
Ethel Clarken was born July 31, 1932, in Spirit Lake to George and Fern "Brand" Prentice. Ethel married John Raymond Clarken on April 23, 1948. They farmed land one mile north of Greenville until John passed away in 1988. She moved to Spencer one year later and has lived there since then.
She was preceded in her death by her parents; a brother, Harlan Prentice; a sister, Mary; her husband; and her daughter, Jean Ann Clarken.
She was a president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Spencer and an active member for many years. She also was active in the Eagles drill team and bowling league, winning state competitions. Her frank, caring and unassuming nature made her well liked and respected by all who knew her.
Ethel was much loved and will be deeply missed by her four sons: Dale, Fort Collins, Colo., Rodney, Marquette, Mich., Lee (Pat), Atlantic, Ia., and Russ (Paula), Adel, Ia.; 10 grandchildren: Ziya, Rehema, Jake, Lua, John, Tara, Nicole, John, Kayla and Cassie; 11 great-grandchildren; and many friends.
