Student senators from the Emmetsburg, Estherville and Spencer campuses of Iowa Lakes Community College were able to raise $450 this year for the Buddy Walk, thanks to the sale of Scotch-A-Roos on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

This was the fifth year that the Students Senators have helped raise money for the Buddy Walk, which will be held Sunday, at Arnolds Park. The Buddy Walk is sponsored by the Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society.

"Each year we've done this, it's been popular with students, faculty and staff," said Kyle Hanson, president of the Emmetsburg Student Senate. "And, when the money goes to a good cause it makes you want to buy more than one of the Scotch-A-Roos."

At the Spencer campus, Student Senator Shawnda Brogan, sold the treats during the lunch and dinner hours.

"I want to thank everyone who bought a Scotch-A-Roo," Brogan said. "We made a lot of money in a couple of hours. People were generous and didn't want their change back."

The Buddy Walk is an annual event which promotes acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and raises funds for local and national education, research and advocacy program.

Student senators paid for the ingredients in the Scotch-A-Roos so that all profits would go to the Buddy Walk.
