Two killed in Saturday Spencer collision

A two-car collision at the intersection of Clay County roads B-24 and M-50 claimed the life of a West Bend man and Boyden woman Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Jospeh Bonstetter, 61, of West Bend was traveling east on B-24 in his 1999 Chevy S10., Denise Boeve, 50, was driving south on M-50 in her 2009 Toyota Camry. Bonstetter failed to obey a stop sign and struck the passenger side of Boeve's vehicle in the intersection - causing the Camry to slide sideways into the southeast ditch. It came to rest facing west. Bonstetter's S10 spun 360 degrees and came to rest facing east.

Bonstetter was transported to the Spencer Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Yvonne Huls, 78, of Boyden, who was riding in the front passenger seat of Boeve's vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boeve, along with passengers, Sara Krikke, 27, of Sibley, and Mary Jo Huls, 50, of Sibley were all trasported to the Spencer Hospital. Boeve and Krikke were both lifeflighted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

The accident remains under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Spencer Police, Iowa State Patrol, Dickens Fire and Rescue, Spencer Fire and Rescue, Spencer Ambulance and Paramedics, and the Clay County Medical Examiner all assisted at the scene.
