Funeral services for Billie E. Hoekstra will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven.

Interment will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Billie Elberta Hoekstra was born Dec. 5, 1916, near Pleasantville, Ia. She attended school in Pleasantville, graduating from Knoxville High School. Following graduation, Billie attended Central College in Pella where she received a degree in education.

Billie taught in Crownwell, Ia. before marrying Jake Hoekstra on Aug. 31, 1940, in Knoxville, Ia. Billie and Jake moved to northwest Iowa where Billie taught at Ocheyden, Lake Center, Gillet Grove, Graettinger, Terril and Emmetsburg Catholic School.

Billie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven where she had been active in circle.

Billie passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at the Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls, Ia. at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; and an infant brother, LeRoy.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Greg Hoekstra (Anne) of Waterloo, Ia. and Gwen Hoekstra of Fall Creek, Wis.; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and one sister, Dixie Kanago fo Spencer.
