Services for Florence I. Gard will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. Pastor Luther Thoresen will officiate the service.

Inurnment will occur at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Florence Irene Gard, daughter of Lewis and Dorothy (Williamson) Larson, was born April 1, 1906, in Brainerd, Minn. She graduated from Cylinder High School.

On Aug. 5, 1925, Florence was united in marriage to Victor John Gard in Cylinder. Florence and Victor owned and operated a grocery store and hardware store in Cylinder before moving near Ruthven where they farmed. Florence also was employed as a nurse's aide for seven years.

Florence passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, at the age of 104.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Gloria Griswold; son-in-law, Donald Torreson; sisters: Leona, Sylvia, Annetta and Viola; and a brother, Edward.

She is survived by her children: Victoria Torreson of Spencer, Ia., Bonita Chamber (Garland) of Cathedral City, Calif. and John Gard (Carol) of Lake Bluff, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth of Arizona.
