Doris Jean Neill Johnson McFall, daughter of George and Florence Neill, was born on Oct. 28, 1926, in Vassar, Kansas. She and her twin sister Cloris were the youngest of six children. Following graduation from Vassar in 1944, Doris attended Westmar College in LeMars, Ia. where she met her husband Clyde T. Johnson. They married on Aug. 20, 1948, and made their home in Spencer, Ia. They later divorced. As a homemaker and the mother of two sons, Doris was very active in her church and community. She later taught fashion merchandising at the Spencer School of Business. Her passion for women's fashions led her to opening her own boutique in Spencer. She owned and operated a successful women's clothing store, the House of Dorelle, from 1973 to 1988. After selling her store, she moved to the Des Moines area in order to be closer to her grandchildren. While living in Des Moines, Doris met and married Richard McFall on June 12, 1998, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale. They enjoyed traveling in their retirement. Dick died Jan. 31, 2006. In January 2010, Doris moved to Oskaloosa to be close to family. She lived at Maple Ridge, making many new friends. Doris spent two peaceful months at the Serenity House before she went to be with her Lord and Savior. Memorial contributions may be made to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
Doris was a 50-year member of P.E.O. and was very active in PTA at the local and state levels. She enjoyed Bible study and sharing her Christian faith with others. Doris was involved in Questers as an avid collector of antiques, Lalique crystal, and tea sets. Though Doris had many interests, her greatest joy was her role as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Those left to honor her memory are her sons: Bradley (Lynda) Johnson of Atlanta, Ga. and Clark (Debra) Johnson of Oskaloosa; grandchildren: Grant Johnson of Iowa City and Meredith (Dominick) Moyer of DeKalb, Ill.; great-granddaughter, Vivianne Moyer; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law: Ruthie Neill and Jeanie Neill; and many friends.
