Mary Cummings Kelly died peacefully in Roanoke, Va. on April 15, 2011. She was born on March 5, 1921, to Jules Metzger and James Alexander Cummings. She grew up in Spencer, Ia., attended Stephens College in Columbus, Mo. and graduated from the University of Wisconsin. She lived most of her married life in Beaumont, Texas. She was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Magnolia Garden Club, and Beaumont Art Museum.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Dale Wayne Kelly.
She is survived by three sons: Stephen Cummings Kelly of Seattle, Wash., James Alexander Kelly and wife, Kay Johnson of Roanoke, Va., and John Ellison Kelly of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren: Alexander Gardner Kelly and wife, Catherine Ruth Felton Kelly of Charlotte, N.C., James Cummings Kelly of Charleston, S.C., Katherine Thomas Kelly, of Charlotte, N.C., Ian Kelly of New York City, N.Y., and Megan Kelly of Seattle, Wash.; two great-grandchildren: Sara Bonner Kelly and Gardner Thomas Kelly of Charlotte, N.C.
A private memorial service will be held at Lake Okoboji, Ia. in September.
