Bryce Paul Wellnitz, 67, of Lincoln, formerly of Webb, Ia., died peacefully Monday, April 25, 2011, after a brief illness. He was born on Dec. 16, 1943, to Paul and Edith (Pangborn) Wellnitz in Estherville, Ia. Bryce was a 1962 Webb Iowa Consolidated High School graduate. Later that year he joined the US Navy. He married Donna Fude in December of 1965. Bryce retired from the US Navy in 1985, after 20 plus years of service. His second career was with the Nebraska State Highway Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division in computer support services. He retired from the Nebraska Highway Patrol in 2006. In his retirement Bryce volunteered as a Peer Support Specialist through the Veteran's Administration to help other veterans.
Wellnitz is survived by his wife, Donna (Fude) Wellnitz, of Lincoln; children and spouse: Lisa Wellnitz, Lincoln, Lynn Wellnitz, Ames, Ia., and Jodi and Scott Beltrani, St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren: Anthony Bryce and Isabelle Beltrani; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and William Zane, Ball, Indianapolis, Ind.; sister-in-law, Margaret Crow; brothers-in-law and spouses: Raymond and Karen Fude, Ron and Elizabeth Fude, and Roger Fude; dearly loved relatives and friends; and beloved cats: Bonnie, Clyde, Pixel and Motley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in laws, Harold and Donna Fude; and brother-in-law, James Crow.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th St.
Bryce's wishes were cremation, no viewing/visitation.
A memorial service will also be held at a later date in Webb, Ia. in late May, date to be announced.
