Seeking your input

Saturday, April 16, 2011

For those of you who say there's nothing to do around Spencer, I would love to switch places with you this weekend. It's run and shoot, run and shoot, run and shoot - driving and photographing from sunup to sundown Saturday.

I can feel your sympathy.

But that's not what I'm looking for. Instead I'm seeking your ideas.

We continue to add to the paper's offerings for our readers, and we are constantly seeking ways to better our product. Your contributions are always appreciated.

Additionally, we are also striving to improve the quality of our web content.

Obviously, we don't want our web presence to be a duplication of the newspaper. That's why you will find some similar and some unique content within both Daily Reporter products.

One of the new pieces we're looking to add to the site is called "Five Minutes With ..." a video interview with a newsmaker or personality in the community.

Presently we're compiling a series of ideas for future segments, but I'm hoping to pick your brains for interesting persons, groups or events for the special web only piece. Some of the ideas will most certainly turn into stories in print I'm guessing, and every suggestion is appreciated.

There's plenty going on in the community, so finding material for the weekly video feature should not be a problem, but there are also great stories to be told which aren't perhaps as public.

That's where we count on you. Both in print and electronically, we're asking for your ideas to help us give you what you want and deserve.

We're not going to be making any dramatic changes to either of our news products. But we will be providing some value-added features to each to give our readers more to enjoy in the coming months. A little extra bang for your buck.

We want you to tell us what your thinking about. We want you to tell us what you want to read about. Spencer, Everly, Royal, Webb, Sioux Rapids, Gillett Grove, Fostoria, Milford, Ruthven, Dickens and all areas in between -- we're your news source. We want to hear from you.

  • I've heard they will be doing a "Larry The Cable Guy: Only In America" show around the time he is doing his show in Spencer. How about a "how they make it" piece.

  • I think you should spend a week at People For Pets and see what goes on there and write about that. So people will understand there is more to it than walking dogs and petting the cats. Answer the phone and talk to potentional owner surrenders. That would be an eye opening experience for all!

Think you could handle something like that Randy?

  • how about interviews with livestock farmers who contribute to our local economy by circulating money at a ratio of $1 turns into $5, when spent are after all, located in the breadbasket of the world as far as agriculture is need to get more up to speed on reporting.kicd has also slipped, they put on canned djs and prerecorded shows instead of doing the coverage themselves..we go to other papers and stations further away when we want local news as our area is so poorly covered any can do it if you want to.
