Jean Elliott Thorman, 96 of Platte City, Mo. passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at her residence. A visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Platte City United Methodist Church, Platte City, Mo. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 29. Interment will be 11 a.m. Friday April 1, 2011, at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven, Ia. The family suggests contributions be given to Saint Luke's Hospice. Jean was born Dec. 19, 1914 in Paullina, Ia., to Harry Anderson and Mary (Cowan) Scott. Then she lived in Dickens, Ia., Ruthven, Ia., and San Clemente Calif. until she moved to Platte City in the spring of 1992. Jean won awards for her quilting and needlework in the Platte County fair. She enjoyed bird watching and she was an avid reader. Jean married Max Jacob Thorman on April 21, 1938, in Paullina, Ia. She was a member of the Platte City United Methodist Church. Jean worked in the meat depatment of Swanson's Grocery Store in Spencer, Ia. for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters: Bella Scott and Margaret Stoulil. Jean is survived by her sons: John Thorman (Susie) of Kansas City, Mo. and Douglas Thorman of Shell Rock Ia.; her daughters: Betty Fogarty (Pat) of Parkville, Mo. and Jan Bryan (Mike) of Platte City, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and friends.
