Congratulations go out to all those involved in the Family Fest, held Saturday at the Clay County Regional Events Center. Over 1,000 attended the inaugural event, and fun was had by all.
The staff at the events center, Positively Spencer Youth, Community Bank, The Farmers Bank, and all the others who helped make the day of fun possible deserve our thanks. I'm hoping this is the first of many such family days to come.
Have you sent in your nomination for someone who deserves to be honored as Citizen of the Year?
What's the hold up?
Think about all the great things that have been going on in our community. Those things don't happen on their own. Look around and identify the "spark plugs" that get things going.
Then, send me a letter, telling me about that special person.
That's all there is to it. The former Citizens of the Year select the newest member of their group from the nominations they are sent. If you don't point out a special person, they can't select them.
The world has certainly changed. And, believe it or not, the British monarchy is changing with it.
Like millions of people around the world, I got up early on the morning a shy Diana Spencer married Prince Charles. I was glued to the TV screen as the ceremony took place.
Fast forward 30 years, and Prince William will be taking his bride this April. Millions of people will once again watch fascinated as Kate Middleton goes from a commoner to a princess.
But, there are some big changes this time around. And one of them came to my attention last week.
The British monarchy itself has set up a website devoted soley to the upcoming nuptials.
For the royal wedding.
From the royal family.
Times they are a changing!
My March Madness preview came Saturday night as I watched my two favorite teams do battle. Duke and North Carolina, located just 20 miles from each other, have one of the nastiest rivalries in college basketball.
With the Tar Heel victory on Saturday night, they locked up the ACC conference title headed into the conference tournament. Count out Coach K and the Blue Devils in tourney action? No way.
That's what makes this time of the year so much fun.
