Funeral services for Mr. Edward Dirksen, 91, of Estherville, formerly of Spencer, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville. Rev. Paul Wiegman will officiate the 11 a.m. service.

Visitation will occur one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will take place at Willow Creek Cemetery in Royal.

Mr. Dirksen passed way Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Edward H. Dirksen, the son of Riner and Reka (Schoorman) Dirksen, was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Milford. He received his education in Summit Township schools.

On June 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Gladys E. Jespersen in Royal. Ed worked for Spencer Foods for 20 years. He was also employed at Petersen Sheep and Cattle and the Milford Terminal Cooperative. Gladys died in 1993. He married Dorothy Taylor Sept. 23, 1995, and the couple made their home in Estherville.

Ed was a long-time member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer, and joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville on Sept. 22, 2002.

He has been preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys; parents, stepmother, and brothers, George and John Dirksen.

Left to cherish Ed's memory are his wife, Dorothy, of Estherville; daughter, Beverly Goertzen, and her husband, Rollie, of Circle Pines, Minn.; step-children, Roland Taylor, and his wife, Gwen, of Terril; Roberta Donaldson, and her husband, Gordon, of Cedar Rapids; Mike Taylor, and his wife, Shirley, of Lake Park; three grandchildren, Matt, Amy, and Chad; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Hagemeyer, and her husband, George, of Clara City, Minn.; brother-in-law, Harold Mattfeld, of Austin, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

Henry-Olson Funeral Home of Estherville is in charge of arrangements.
