Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha French, 100, of Spencer, will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Rev. Trudy Petersen will officiate the 2 p.m. service.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Feb. 19 service at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Mrs. French passed way Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Prairie View Nursing Home in Sanborn.

Bertha Marie French, the daughter of Otto and Marie (Riechmann) Rudnick, was born Nov. 29, 1910, on the family farm, near Lincoln Township. She attended grade school at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was baptized in 1910 and confirmed in 1925. She graduated from Grey High School in 1929 and then went onto secretary school in Omaha, Neb.

Bertha married Vern French on Sept. 18, 1935, in Shenandoah. After their marriage she worked and lived as a homemaker in Audubon County, Council Bluffs, Spencer and Boyden.

Bertha enjoyed playing cards, dominos, sewing and crocheting, but her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters: Eliza Rutz, Minnie Boers and Dorothy Rudnick; eight brothers: Reinhard, Gustua, Herbert, Alfred, John, Carl, August and Oscar Rudnick; one infant child; one son, Vern (Roy) French; and one son-in-law, Lester Winter.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Ellen Winter, of Boyden; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
