A funeral mass service for Mr. Doug Surat, 56, of Dickens, formerly of Fostoria, will be Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Spencer.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Mr. Surat died peacefully Feb. 9, 2011, at his home after a long bout with cancer.

Douglas Surat was born April 11, 1954, in Chamberlain, S.D., to Melvin and Louise Adell (Fields) Surat. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1972, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1975. Doug worked at Shopper's Supply (Bomgaars) in Spencer until his health prevented him from working.

Doug touched many lives and had an enormous heart for his family, neighbors and for his church. His joy for life always let him see the lighter side of things and he never took himself too seriously, even throughout his two-year fight against cancer. He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him.

Grateful for having shared in Doug's life are his wife, Deb Powers; his children: Justin and Austin Surat; three step-children: Tosten, Autumn and Ashlee Langholz; and four siblings: Deborah K. Surat, Monte Surat, Tim Surat and Tammy Carr. May his memory be eternal.
