Funeral services for Marie B. Pettit, 92, were held Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Clem Currans officiated the service.

Interment took place at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg.

Marie Bernice Pettit, daughter of Clarence and Alice (Conway) Frederick, was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Cylinder, Ia. She attended country school and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1936.

On July 19, 1937, Marie was united in marriage to Claude Joseph Pettit at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union eight children were born.

Marie was a very talented, self-taught pianist. She not only accompanied her children when they were performing, but also entertained generations of family and friends with her uncanny ability to play any song request made of her.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

In 2006 Marie moved to Lakeside Lutheran Home where she has resided for the past four and a half years. She passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Lakeside Lutheran Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude; two daughters: Alice McEvoy Blackstock and Mary Blake; two brothers: Donald and Ralph Frederick; and grandsons: Bill Blackstock, Baby Gary Carlisle, and Frank Thomas (Duffy) Fitzsimmons, III.

She is survived by her children: Robert Pettit (Kathryn) of Ruthven, Ia., Patricia Crowell of Ruthven, Ia., Claudia Liessmann Prince (Larry) of Ruthven, Ia., Donald Pettit (Mary Ann) of Reno, Nevada, Claude Pettit Jr. of Emmetsburg, Ia., and Thomas Pettit (Shari) of Emmetsburg, Ia.; a brother, Lee Frederick (Kathleen) of Emmetsburg; 64 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
