Judith Lynn Hurt, daughter of retired Brigadier General Oscar Hurt of Prescott, Ariz. and Violet Henkel Hurt McClaire of Laguna Woods, Calif., passed away Dec. 21, 2010, at Pomarado Hospital in Poway, Calif., after a lengthy heart illness and series of strokes.
Judi was born in Greencastle, Ind. on April 20, 1956. She was a graduate of Lareina High School and attended Moorepark College in Moorepark, Calif. As a teenager she worked as a nanny for Paul Newman's stuntman, Jim Arnett, and his family. During this period of time she had the opportunity to meet Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward's family as well as Peter Fonda, Henry Fonda and their families. In later years she worked for Farmer's Insurance until advised by her cardiologist to take a rest. She resumed working as a front office receptionist for her brother's dental practice and later, for 10 years, for Community Interface Services providing care to other disabled persons. When asked if her disability was an obstacle her immediate response was always, "Not at all. It has made me a better person. Life is too short to dwell on the disability." Judi beautiful smile, enthusiasm, and perseverance helped all who knew her.
Preceding her in death are her soul mate, Mark Logan of Vista, Calif.; and her grandparents: Arthur and Hattie Hurt and Ralph and Margaret Henkel - all of Spencer.
She is survived by parents, Oscar Hurt of Prescott, Ariz. and Violet McClaire of Laguna Woods, Calif.; her brother, Dr. Greg Hurt of San Marcos, Calif.; and her sister, Debra Seppey of Tuscon, Ariz.; and other relatives and friends.
On April 23, 2011, at her request, Judi's ashes and those of her companion, Mark, will be given up to the desert at their favorite camp site in Rancho Mirage, Calif. There she will again be able to enjoy the beautiful flowers and desert scenery she and Mark loved so much.
May they both rest in peace in our Lord's kingdom.
