Funeral services for Don A. Barry of Spencer and Sutherland, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.

Don Alfonzo Barry the son of Carl and Mabel (Mann) Barry was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Pierre, S.D. He died on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at the Longhouse in Spencer, Ia. at the age of 94.

He spent most of his life in and near Sutherland, Ia. Don married Eldora Raymond on June 11, 1938, in Orange City, Ia. They farmed for many years and moved to town in 1959 and to Spencer, Ia. in 1972, where he worked for Witco until he retired in 1981.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland and a over 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 357. He served over 21 years of public service as a township clerk, a trustee and a District No. 5 O'Brien County Supervisor.

Don's other interests were flying small planes, owning a race car, trucking spring water, attending auctions, and selling Spencer County Fair tickets.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dodie; daughter, Kathi Sweet; his siblings: Edwin, Roger and Thomas Barry; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; one niece; and one nephew.

He is survived by his children: Patricia Barry, Dorothy (Richard) Pierret, Don (Paulette) Barry and Yvonne Barry; sister-in-law, May Barry; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.
