Derald Dean Streufert

Derald Dean Streufert was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Argusville, N.D., the son of Ernest and Anna (Schutt) Streufert. The family moved to Sutherland in 1945. Derald graduated from Sutherland High School, and he enlisted into the United States Army where he served three years for his country, stationed in Alaska.

On June 14, 1959, Derald was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Berg at Peterson, Ia. The couple lived in Peterson and Sutherland before moving to Emmetsburg in 1963. Derald worked at Ted's Super Value for eight years, and he spent 25 years driving for American Freight and Crouse Cartage. He retired in 1997 for health reasons.

Derald was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2295. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Derald also enjoyed working in his garden, cooking, and having coffee with his friends at Dyno's. He was an avid reader and historian, and he especially enjoyed trivia and World War II History.

On Dec. 24, 2010, Derald passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home at the age of 74.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth Ann of Emmetsburg; son, Dale (Rhonda) Streufert of Spencer; daughter, Deanna (Tim) Reiten of Bismarck, N.D.; three grandchildren: Dan (Billie) Streufert of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jennifer (Darwin) Schiltz of Spencer, and Joe (Brindi) Streufert of Holdrege, Neb.; two great-grandchildren: Hannah and Andrew Schiltz; brother-in-law, Bill Wetherell of Fairfield, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Derald was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Wetherell; twin brother, Dallas; and an infant brother; two nieces: Susan and Sandra Wetherell.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
