Kenneth Hansen died Dec. 9, 2010, in San Francisco, Calif., after a lingering illness.

He was born April 2, 1926, to Cornelius and Julia Hansen. His mother died when he was 4 years old. He was raised by his sister, Elvira Pedersen.

He attended country school at Everly and the family moved to Terril, where he graduated from high school.

He enlisted in the V-12 program in the U.S. Navy and attended college at St. Ambrose, where he received his degree and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He continued his education at the University of Iowa and received an M.A.

He taught English at Arnolds Park High School for two years. He moved to Chicago and later to San Francisco, where he worked for United Airlines. Before he retired, he also worked for the city of San Francisco.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Andy and Harry, and their wives; and his brother-in-law, Nels Pedersen. Left to mourn his passing is his sister, Elvira Pedersen, and many nieces and nephews.
