Stella Fredrickson, 96, of Cherokee, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Monday morning, Nov. 15, 2010, in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Meriden Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Larry Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden. There will be a family prayer service at 2:15 p.m. at the church on Thursday. Stella was born on Nov. 18, 1913, at Spencer, S.D., to William & Louisa (McDaniel) Samp. She attended country school in Holabird, S.D., and then graduated from Meriden High School. She was married to Glenn Sangwin on Jan. 2, 1931, at Cherokee. He passed away in 1955. She was later married to Eldon Fredrickson on Nov. 18, 1960, at Berkeley, Calif., She was a member of the Meriden Free Evangelical Church, Women's Missionary Society and White Cross. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons: Robert Sangwin in 1954 and Richard Sangwin in 1984; three brothers; seven sisters, one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; one step-great grandson; one step-son, Darwin Fredrickson; and one step-daughter, Carolyn Fredrickson.
She is survived by one daughter, Glenda Peters of Spencer; two step-children: Norman Fredrickson and his wife, Joyce of Okoboji, and Vanny Hughes and her husband, Jim of Meriden; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; many step-great grandchildren; and several step-great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Floriene Sangwin of Cherokee.
