A Mass of Christian burial for Maurice J. Drew, 89, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Rev. Clem Currans will officiate the service.

Visitation is Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at 6:45 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg.

Maurice Joseph Drew, son of Isaac E. and Mary V. (Conway) Drew, was born March 26, 1921, in Emmetsburg. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1938.

Maurice served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-46, serving during World War II.

On June 18, 1949, Maurice was united in marriage to Jeanne Marie Turck in Emmetsburg. Maurice and Jeanne farmed near Cylinder from 1950 until his retirement in 1993. After Maurice retired he continued to help neighborhood farmers.

Maurice was a member of Holy Family Parish and sang in the church choir for many years. He was a 4-H Leader for many years and was on the 4-H Foundation Board. For 25 years he served on the County Agriculture Services Committee. Maurice had also served on the Cylinder Coop Elevator Board, the Emmetsburg School District Board and was a Freedom Township Trustee for many years.

Maurice passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gene Drew; and two sisters: Veronica Slagle and Theresa Molloy.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Marie of Cylinder; his children: Gary Drew of Maquoketa, Betsy Drew of Sioux Falls, S.D., Denise Reit of Spencer, Mary Drew of Clear Lake and Dan Drew of Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Harold Drew of Oak View, Calif. and Lawrence Drew of Emmetsburg.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
