Mrs. Lorenz passed away Monday, Oct. 18, at Milford Nursing Center in Milford.

Gertrude Elaine Lorenz, the daughter of Garth and Mary (Christensen) Sorenson, was born on Sept. 16, 1918, on a farm five miles east of Spencer. She spent her childhood years on the farm and received her early education attending country school and then graduating from Spencer High School. After high school, she rode the train everyday to Sioux City, where she attended beauty school.

Gertrude married Lee Lorenz on Feb. 21, 1939, at his parent's home farm north of Langdon. Throughout their married life, they farmed in Clay County. Gertrude also worked for John Blair over the years, in the beauty salon. Gertrude loved being on the farm raising her family, helping Lee and tending to her flowers. She also liked to go antiquing, with her friends up at the lakes and different places when she would visit family. The couple retired in 1980, to Wahpeton, where Gertrude enjoyed being near the lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee; her brother, Glen; and her sister, Cleo.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Tom and his wife, Judi of Spencer, and their children: Dana and Catherine, Kim and Genea, Cinnamon and Ron, and Wolf and their families. John and his wife, Karen of Helena, Mont. and their children: Colleen and Rob, Leanne and Zane and Lisa and Derek and their families; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Harris of Spirit Lake; sister-in-law, Ruth Hansen of Spencer; other relatives and friends.

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
