Mr. Toelle passed away Monday, Sept. 20, at Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven.
Charles Ray Toelle was born in Estherville, Iowa on March 15, 1920, to David and Bess Toelle. When Charles was three years of age, his parents moved their family to their farm southwest of Spencer. It was on that farm where Charles was raised and spent most of his life. Charles attended the rural country school close to the farm through the eighth grade and also attended the ninth grade in Spencer.
Charles farmed with his Dad until he enlisted and served in the US Navy in WWII in the Pacific. After the war, Charles returned to Spencer to continue farming until his full retirement in 2006. He married Martha Lavon Ralle on March 28, 1946, and they raised three children.
Among other things, Charles was active in the Farm Bureau, the American Legion, 4-H and FFA support and as Clay County Fair Floraculture Superintendent. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking with primarily walnut hardwood furniture creation and restoration.
Charles enjoyed good health throughout his life, and after a relatively short illness, Charles passed away on Monday evening, Sept. 20.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lavon Toelle of Spencer; son, Doug Toelle of Houston, Texas; daughter, Patricia (Toelle) Lindsey of Leon; grandson, Kristopher Lindsey of Leon; and granddaughter, Paige (Lindsey) Stearns and husband, Brian Stearns of Spencer; and many other relatives and friends.
