On Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, Garry passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
Garry Ellsworth Olson was born April 1, 1942, the son of Harold and Cleo (Darr) Olson in Emmetsburg. Garry attended Ayrshire Community Schools. Following his education, Garry worked as a welder in Laurens, Pocahontas and Emmetsburg. On December 28, 1963, Garry married Janice Kathman, and to this union, two children, Jill and Troy were born. Later in life, Garry was united in marriage to Mary Moore on July 25, 1997.
Garry worked for Morris Durnell for many years and stayed working through the progression of that business into SkyJack, Mfg. After retiring, Garry and his wife, Mary opened the Ayrshire Café.
Garry spent many hours woodworking and donated numerous rocking horses to local charities and fundraisers. Garry enjoyed singing, telling jokes, fishing and horseback riding. He also liked to restore cars and antique tractors. Above all, Garry loved spending time with his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mary of Ayrshire; two children: Jill Williamson (Doug) and Troy Olson (Julie) -- all of Ruthven; six stepchildren: Rose Logan (John) of Estherville, Theresa Gravil of Missouri, Michael Clark of Colorado, Kelly Moore (Barb) of Garner, N.C., Corinda Walker (Jon) of Emmetsburg and Kurt Moore (Dawn) of Ayrshire; a brother, Vernon Olson (Susan) of Dickens; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; 13 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Raymond.
