Marion passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, in Sioux Falls.

Marion Jake Ver Mulm, the son of Case and Jennie Ver Mulm, was born on a farm near Alton, Iowa, on Sept. 7, 1937. He received his early education in country schools and graduated from Ashton High School in 1957.

On June 30, 1959, he married Joyce Arlene Ten Kley. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Ashton, Rock Valley, Sheldon and Everly areas before settling in Spencer in 1988.

Throughout the years, Marion worked as a carpenter and a mechanic but spent most of his life working on a farm. The years on the farm were the backbone of his children's upbringing, where they were taught responsibility and the value of hard work. Marion and his children were very involved with 4-H where he served as a leader for 10 years.

He was a member of the Everly Reformed Church for 24 years before joining Hope Reformed Church in Spencer in 1989.

Later in life he worked for Casey's, Witco, and the Holiday station in Spencer, before retiring in 2000.

Marion always looked forward to summer vacations with his family, especially their fishing trips to Minnesota. Many trips were made to Minnesota, where he taught his children and then his grandchildren to fish. He enjoyed any time spent on a lake with a fishing pole.

He enjoyed working in his gardens and selling his produce at Farmers Market for 14 years, where he served as president and vice president.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James Ver Mulm.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Spencer; five children: Debra Walling and her husband, Mike of Hartley, Roger Ver Mulm and his wife, Candy of Morganton, N.C., Janet Erdman and her husband, Jim of Sioux Center, Randy Ver Mulm and his wife, Mary of Everly, and Brian Ver Mulm and his wife, Laura of Spencer; 19 grandchildren: Mitchell, Joshua, Millissa, Jessica, Jamie, Lisa, Jonathon, Katelyn, Jerrica, Steven, Julia, Tristin, Karina, Jade, Ryan, Jenna, Isabelle, Jason and Allyson; four great-grandchildren: Joshua, Micah, Adin and Madison; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Ver Mulm of Sanborn.

The Schuchert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
