Funeral services for Mr. Thomas "Tom" Garrod, 90, of Spencer, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Rev. William Schreiber will officiate.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. and a Catholic Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.

Interment will take place in North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.

Mr. Garrod passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Thomas Garrod was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Washta, Iowa, to Tim and Martha (Small) Garrod. Tom grew up in that small community surrounded by family and friends. Tom married Cleo Ihry on Sept. 23, 1939. They made their home in Cherokee and shortly after Tom left to serve his country as a part of the army during W.W.II. He was sent overseas and returned to the states due to wounds he sustained while serving in France.

Tom lead an active and adventurous life as a store manager, implement salesman, farmer, postmaster, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Legionnaire and member of V.F.W. He always enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren stories of his childhood. Faith, family, cars and the open road were always important in his life.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Cleo; three daughters: Sharon (Terry) Schnetter, Lynda (Bill) Fettes and Connie (Bill) Honkomp; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
