Services for Hazel M. Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at United Methodist Church in Ruthven. Rev. Roger Maize will officiate the service.

Inurnment will take place in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ruthven.

Hazel Marie Johnston, daughter of Harry N. and Viola P. (Hoadley) Rouse, was born March 9, 1923, in Ruthven. She received her education in Ruthven. Following her high school graduation, Hazel attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines graduating in 1947. Hazel worked two years at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

On June 3, 1949, Hazel was united in marriage to Stanley F. Johnston in Rembrandt, Iowa. Hazel and Stan farmed near Sherburn, Minn., and Hazel was employed as a nurse at Trimont. After moving to Ruthven, Hazel was the Director of Nursing at Lakeside Lutheran Home and then worked for many years at the Emmetsburg Family Practice Clinic, retiring in 1998.

Hazel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven and the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary. She was also active in the Red Hat Society.

Hazel passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer at the age of 87.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley in 1999; and a brother, Wayne Rouse.

She is survived by a sister, Iona Dunklau of Emmetsburg; a brother, Marvin Rouse and his wife, Dorothy of Ruthven; nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
