Mr. Wilcox passed away at Spencer Hospital on Saturday, May 29, 2010.

Donovan Eugene Wilcox was born to Leo and Lula (Dugan) Wilcox on Sept. 17, 1924, in Spencer. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1942, went to California where he worked for MacDonald Douglas Aircraft and was drafted into the Army. He moved back to Spencer and married Betty Lou Bradley July 9, 1949. They became the parents of five children: Ted, Jack, Kathy, Karen and Gary.

Don worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office until his retirement. He had various hobbies and interests, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, photography, reading, cooking and gardening. His spaghetti sauce is famous in the family. He won numerous ribbons at the fair for his canned goods. During the Clay County Fair, he worked backstage running lights for the shows and captured many photographs of the acts. He loved to take the family boating and also camping in an old school bus he refurbished into a camper. He always appreciated and could tell a good joke. He enjoyed spending winters in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lula; his wife, Betty in 1986; and his sister, LaVonne James.

Left to cherish his memory are Ted, of North Mankato, Minn., Jack and his wife, Diane of Everly, Kathy Decker and her husband, Dave, Karen Carey and her husband, Mark, and Gary -- all of Spencer; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
